Surge is a nice stable Max D driver with good glide and forward fade. Less stable than a Crush or Avenger but faster. Easy to throw on a consistent distance line. Very popular Discraft disc and below are some quotes from the Pro’s:
“The Surge is the longest flying disc that I have thrown, right up with the Avenger. The two discs have different uses for me because the Surge is less stable and gets a little more glide.” -Nathan Doss, 2005 and 2007 World Champion
“I LOVE the Surge! It is a super loooong range bomber disc that flies fairly straight. Your going to want to get a Surge in your bag!” -World Champion Eric McCabe
“A must for maximum distance. This is the fastest disc I have thrown on a disc golf course. It penetrates like no other disc, but is very good to handle and not too overstable. The disc holds high speeds but does not fade back too early when slowing down.” -World distance record setter Chris Max Voigt
“My main driver, my favorite disc. You won’t find a better driver on the market.” -Liz Carr
“The Surge is my distance driver. It has great glide and I do not have to try and overthrow this disc.” -Cale Leiviska
“The perfect combination of speed and glide makes Surge the most reliable and accurate driver I have ever thrown.” -2008 Am World Champion Jeremy Koling

The Surge is essentially the same as Innova’s Wraith but is available in Discraft’s plastics which I prefer over Innova’s with the exception of Pro.
The Surge is a great “controlled distance” driver. By that, I mean that it provides me with the longest predictable throws I can make. I might be able to throw other discs further, but I’m generally less consistent and they wind up costing me more strokes than they gain me. It has just the right amount of stability for someone in my power range. I also like the rim width. I have some trouble generating as much spin with the faster, thicker rimmed drivers but I find that I can grip the surge very comfortably.
