  1. worst disc ever. not consistent from disc to disc or throw to throw. if you can’t count on it, it’s useless.

  2. I took my Groove out for a field session for kicks and to see what it could do. I haven’t thrown it in a long while, so I didn’t know how it would perform for me now.

Well, I can no longer be curious about its flight. That’s about all I took from the session. This disc has no glide compared to any other disc I throw. I was putting it out to about 375′ consistently, when that is normal for a Teebird for me. It flew pretty understable at high speeds, and had a harsh, early fade. It just didn’t seem to go anywhere. There was no wind, and I was putting my other discs (Nuke, Flow, Valk, Teebird) out to their usual distances, so it wasn’t my fault that the Groove was coming up so short.

I still can’t see any reason to carry this disc unless people that throw FH like discs that don’t glide at all.

  3. A definite forhand disc. I don’t have a great backhand so I can’t get the disc to fly well at all. Farthest distance I have thrown the Groove is 420′ but when throwing on a flat field averages around 275-300.
Practicing with the Groove is the way to learn it and you will find that your hyzer and annhyzer release points are key in where the disc goes.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 3 Thumb down 5

  4. This was my first high speed disc and I still turn to it for distance when I want a predictable rightward fade. I’ve had two ace’s with this disc and it is my go to for forehand hyzers. I bought another groove to compliment my first disc and its the worst piece of trash ever. I would caution anyone throwing this disc backhand as well. Overall its a great disc because I alone know its secrets and the internet hates it.

  5. A very inconsistent disc to throw but capable of good distance and some molds tend to be better than others. Not a beginner disc. I carried one for a while after liking the Monarch and thought it would be a good longer counter part but really only liked it for forehand shots which needed lots of room to fly. The disc often holds a turn too long or flips over oddly specially with any wind. Every groove tends to be a little different with some super overstable and other very understable. I will go far if you can throw it perfectly but no one has perfect form here.

Good discs are about consistency and reliability– I want to know how the disc will react when I throw it and preform the same time and time again which the groove will not. You will get some huge hyzers, odd rollers and nice long flex shots but the angle of release/speed required to make the groove fly right is very touchy.

  6. My first FH disc and the one that gave me the confidence to keep throwing that way, there are way to many people giving this disc bad reviews without really working with it for a while or throwing it correctly. Keep the nose down, throw it FH, and release with a slight anhyzer and you will get a beautiful long S. I find my pointer finger on the inside of the rim and middle finger sitting in the “groove” along the edge makes for a really comfortable and effective sidearm throw. I really enjoying throwing this disc 350″ down the fairway in front of people who bag it as soon as i pull it from my bag.

  7. Buying a Groove is like buying a lottery ticket. Most the time its gonna be worthless. Sometimes you will get something awesome. In my experience with the Groove I could send one consistently when I was a beginner. Now that I’ve improved on form I never know where this disc is going. It’s been taken out of my bag for good. I have heard of people who get good ones before.

  8. It is an awfully inconsistent mold, from an inconsistent manufacturer, but if you find a disc that works for you individually it’s not bad. I have a lighter (167) disc, almost concave, and it is my go to for straight D. Slight annhyzer, for a pronounced turn before the long glide hyzer, or flat for a lot of carry into a slight turn.

It’s a bad mold, but specific discs can be good if you beat then in and it fits the thrower. I would never recommend it for anything other than tailwind and calm sidearm drives, but it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be.

  9. The Groove has only one purpose and that is to be thrown forehand (sidearm). Wind is not this discs friend, but can be used in certain conditions. If you are new to the sport, buy this disc and throw forehand for immediate distance…

  10. I have yet to get a consistent result with this disc. Even just practice throwing in a flat field. I would not recommend this disc to anyone.

  11. This disc is inconsistent. I can get my Groove out to 300 feet, but I have to throw it flat or even with a little anny to flex it out. On the other hand, I have hyzer-flipped my friends Groove out past 300 feet. You don’t want to throw this disc with any strong headwind or crosswind as it tends to do weird things.

The only redeemeing quality seems to be with the forehanding community. I am not a gread forehand player, but the Groove is one disc that I can forehand well. There are actually a handful of my disc golf friends who like the Groove for forehand shots. On forehand shots, the Groove will turn, but it usually always recovers (see wind above) and glides forward before the big hyzer.

  12. This disc can get great distance when thrown correctly in perfect conditions, but it’s just too unpredictable to become a regular in my bag. It doesn’t ever seem to do the same thing twice, and appears to be sensitive to wind angles (perhaps a bi-product of the groove on the wing?). I own three, and wish I didn’t. 1 in 5 throws will fly according to specs, with the others doing any number of strange things like turning into the ground, or unexpectedly turning nose up, and dying to the left (RHBH). I wouldn’t recommend this disc to anybody.
