From the Manufacturer...

River has taken the market by storm and is a disc with THE GLIDE. It´s easy to throw and fits most player's power and skill levels. River is a fairway control driver and while it´s not the fastest disc we have made, and doesn't have the widest wing ever made, it is a disc for accurate driving and good control. With small fade and amazing glide, you can really let it fly on to those big anhyzer curves.

  1. This disc is a very straight flying driver, but not very consistent. It always went about 30 feet father then my Discraft Stalker, but when my stalker when straight down the middle every time, the River would S curve, sometimes landing more to the left, and sometimes fading out a lot at the end.

  2. Should have been named the bird because this disc just flies! Super glide, minimal fade, and easier to turn-over. Slightly release sensitive disc but a good long fairway like driver. Great for long-downhill shots or straight/anhyzer drives. Had a hard time placing this one in the bag due to some inconsistent flights depending on the mold but find Opto line to be pretty solid with GL much less stable. Good first “longer” driver if the flow is too fast and striker too stable. Smaller rim and large dome than other Lat. 64 drivers with equal distance potential Reminds me of the OOP Primitus with the “64dome” Handles wind fairly well.

  3. The River by Latitude 64 is a great stable fairway driver, which is an awesome addition to any player’s bag. The thing that stands out to me the most about this disc is the GLIDE. I have never thrown a disc with so much glide in my life and the flight of the River is an amazing thing to watch. Latitude 64 is fairly new to the sport of disc golf, but they have already been pushing the progression of disc design. The River is proof of this as a fantastic control/touch fairway driver. The stability of the River will very a bit depending on the weight. Heavier = more stable, Lighter = less stable. This is a good thing IMO because different weights will fly significantly different. This means you can carry the same mold for different flight lines. You don’t need a lot of power to throw this disc; this makes it great for beginners.

OPTO River – I do not own an Opto at the moment because most of the ones I have seen for sale are very translucent and I don’t like searching for discs. That being said the feel of the plastic is amazing and it is very durable. I have thrown a few Opto’s and they seem to be a bit more stable than the Gold Line. I have been told they also break in a bit slower and will hold their flight pattern for a longer period of time.

Gold Line River – This plastic looks so cool and fly’s the same. It beats in a bit faster than Opto and will become slightly understable after a few rounds. It is a great disc for hyzer flips and anhyzers. It will hold a hyzer but as it beats in it gets a little flippy.

There are a few draw backs to the River IMO. It is not a wind disc at all. I have seen it do some really crazy thing in the wind including a triple s curve. This makes it very unpredictable in winds of 10mph or more. Secondly the colors and opacity of the discs can make them difficult to find if you are not in the middle of the fairway. The plastic looks cool but I want to be able to find my disc with as little effort as possible. The Optos are to translucent and some of the Gold Lines are very close to the color of fall foliage. Lastly it seems difficult to find lower weights with any kind of consistency. I would like to get a 162g but the lightest I have seen is 166g.

Overall the River is a great disc and the more I throw it the more I like it. It does have some drawbacks but in the right conditions I throw some of the best lines of my life with this disc.

  4. Fantastic disc. I have a 174 GL and 169 Opto and these discs have become my primary straight RHBH driver. Let them go on a slight hyzer and watch them pop up, carry on straight forever and then settle down slightly to the left. Almost seems effortless to get them out to 350 on a nice level line.

  5. This is easily my favorite disc in the bag!!!
At first I was a little hesitant because of the -2 turn over rating and the 7 glide, but it holds what ever line you give it with a little fade at the end. Today, I was throwing in an open field and the disc glides so far it went pass my Boss and wraith easily. I was shocked. I have the OPTO line plastic, which I feel is so much more dependable than the GOLD line. It just feels amazing in your hand! You will not be disappointed!

  6. This disc came in no small part as a response to pleading from players who had a passion for Latitude 64. After the Striker there was no fairway driver to fill the hole of a stable to understable turning driver that could hold a line with minimal fade in their line up. Enter the River… After less than a dozen throws with the River I was more encouraged than I have ever been by a disc manufacturer. Everything we had asked for, they had delivered. The disc is Neutral breaking into slightly understable over time. When I stand on the tee of a 350′- 380′ hole in the woods, with no wind, and a 20′ alley to throw down, THIS is when I know my River is going to shine. It’s ability to slowly hyzer flip and lock onto a line with little to no fade for a very long, slow & lofty flight is truly something to behold. This makes it very good for dogleg turns where you can put the disc on a hyzer line to round a corner and watch it flip to level to finish the line. It has it’s limitations though, becareful in heavy wind conditions as the enormous glide will can come back to haunt you. Weight is going to make a big difference in stability on this disc as others have noted, with the heavier ones being more stable. Opto is generally more stable than Gold line, and Gold Line is going to break in significantly faster. It’s a touch disc, not a maximum rip driver. When I need to go 400′ I’m reaching for something else, not this disc. For anyone (specifically newer players) throwing 300′-360′ you NEED this driver. Similar discs: JLS, Leopard…

  7. The Gold Line River is one of the most weight-tunable discs on the market. Meaning a 160g flies very differently from a 178g (max weight). Typically for every disc, the heavier it is the more high speed stability it has (less turn). The GL River takes this to a new level. Light 160ish GL Rivers fly like a well seasoned star leopard. Heavy 175ish GL Rivers fly like a slightly less stable Star EagleX. However these are not fair comparisons because GL Rivers also have much more deminishing speed glide and I find the GL plastic to be slightly more durable.

Bottom line up front: The GL River is a mold-minimizers dream com true where multiple flight paths are possible by carrying multiples in varying weights.

I deducted 0.5 stars for the high retail price of Latitude 64 Gold Line plastic.

  8. GREAT disc! Love the glide and a smooth almost buttery release. My got to driver on most holes. Feels good in my hand and easy to throw, RHFH.

  9. The River is definitely my favorite disc by far. It has more glide than any other disc than I’ve ever thrown, meaning I can get great distance even if I’m not using 100% power. It’s also great for shaping very accurate lines. I’ve been playing with nearly nothing BUT Rivers all summer and it has helped improve my game tremendously. Highly recommended both as a primary driver for beginners and an all around go-to disc for advanced players.
